“An empirical diffusion coefficient function for the acoustic diffusion equation model in long rooms”
In this work, we tackle one of the limitations of the acoustic diffusion equation, when applied to elongated spaces. We propose a spatially varying, empirically derived diffusion coefficient, optimized against radiosity simulations, and show that it significantly improves SPL and reverberation-time predictions in long rooms.
🔑 What’s new?
– A distance-dependent diffusion coefficient tailored for elongated geometries
– A least-squares optimization framework is used to refine the diffusion coefficient
– Validation across a wide range of room dimensions, absorption coefficients, and source positions
The resulting formulation is simple to apply and offers a practical step forward for diffusion-based room acoustics modeling beyond proportionate rooms.
